As a multimedia driven artist and cultural writer, I create artivsms, that centralise the black female body as the subject as opposed to the object; in order to disable the limiting socially constructed ideologies placed upon these entities. Through mixed media paintings, collage, print and sculpture, I choose to re-imagine the female anatomy as a vessel for social change and modernity. Inscribing signals onto the body is necessary, I pull from surrealism and ancient African traditions to work as ‘artivisms’ against oppressive forces. Expressing the multitude of black feminisms is essential in the liberation of these oppressed bodies so it is important to channel identity and sexual politics personally experienced for authenticity and for self – healing. My goal is to educate, inspire and liberate the audience as an interdisciplinary activist.
